Planter & Saucer Series

This project explores the aesthetics of Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, and Art Deco through a series of 3D-printed planters and saucers. Each set transforms historical design principles into functional objects that can be displayed individually or collectively.

While distinct in their use of organic and geometric forms, all planters express upward motion, complementing the growth of the plants they hold. The saucers extend each style’s visual language while providing stability, drainage, and a modular system for grouping the series.

The Art Deco set draws inspiration from the sunburst motif and streamlined ornamentations, while using the “skyscraper style” to define the vertical form.

The Arts & Crafts set pays homage to half-timbered homes from the movement that embraced materials and construction.

The Art Nouveau set takes inspiration from Antoni Gaudí’s expression of organic forms in Casa Batlló in Barcelona.

And, of course, the series offered a perfect excuse to expand my houseplant collection.
